TRON: Identity is a video game set in the TRON Universe. Developed and published by Bithell Games. The game is both a visual novel and puzzle game,[1] that was released on April 11, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch.[2]

Summary[]

In a New Grid, forgotten by its creator and left alone to evolve without User intervention, an unprecedented crime has been committed. The Repository stands at the center of this society. In the aftermath of a break-in, the future of this Grid hangs in the balance.

TRON: Identity is a visual novel adventure following Query, a detective program tasked with uncovering the mystery of what was taken and by whom. Finding yourself in a world built on unstable foundations and filled with whispered knowledge, itā€™s up to you to question suspects and investigate your surroundings to piece together the truth.

The decisions you make will actively influence the story, with a multitude of possible outcomes, good and bad ā€“ all depending on your carefully chosen words. Youā€™ll interact with a number of intriguing characters, and decide whether to ally with them, spurn them, or even derezz them. However you choose to deal with them, youā€™ll need to recover their lost memories in your search for answers, puzzling your way through defragging Identity Discs. The world of TRON is growing, and your adventure is the seed.

Reception[]

TRON: Identity was given a 3.5/5 by ComicBook.[4] TRON: Identity's story was given positive reception while its puzzle solving aspect was spoken negatively on, thus giving it an 8/10 by Nintendo Life.[5] The Guardian remarked TRON: Identity as "a fleeting and unremarkable visual novel that lives in the shadow of better detective games."[6] Game Spot gave TRON: Identity a 7/10.[7] TRON: Identity was given four out of five stars by an author at Digital Trends.[8]

Future[]

Prior to the game's release, the game's producer, Heidy Vargas, confirmed more TRON games to be in development by Bithell Games.[9]

Continuity[]

The New Grid from the game is mentioned to be at least over a thousand cycles old. Considering that Flynn created this Secondary Grid before being trapped in the original one and he was also trapped in there for over a thousand cycles (1050 to be precise), this could explain his absence in the game, which is mentioned by the characters. According to the game's developers, this game occurs thousands of years after TRON: Legacy, while they might have meant grid years (cycles), what is clear is that the game takes place after the events of TRON: Legacy.[1] In another interview, Mike Bithell, the developer of TRON: Identity, states that the game takes place in 2023.[10]
