Matthew Roth is a minor character in the short film, TRON: The Next Day. He is responsible for the creation of the "Flynn Lives" Virus which infected 40 million personal computers.
History[]
Matthew Roth was a hacker and resident of Center City. In 1997, Roth created a virus spreading the phrase "Flynn Lives", this virus attacked 40 million personal computers and despite it's message, Roth was not affiliated with the Flynn Lives movement and instead created the virus alone.
Roth was eventually caught for his crimes, and he had his house raided by a few arresting officers who were surprised to find Roth in his home, eating cereal and watching animated television. No force was needed to arrest Roth and although no bail had been set for his crime, the trail was set for next month. Roth was also suspected as being the leader of the Flynn Lives movement but he was fortunately released by authorities after an anonymous user named ISOlated Thinker covered his legal fees, which kept Roth out of jail. His arrest caused his assets to be frozen however, and several people were concerned as to how he was able to pay for his "illegal dream team", but after a tally by the IRS, it was shown that he less than thirty thousand dollars in hard assets.
Roth was later interviewed about the Flynn Lives virus in 1998.[1]
